I could not put this book down! Dr. Serrallach does an incredible job explaining postpartum depletion in a way that’s easy to understand but still rich with functional medicine insight. 🌿

This book inspired me to educate my clients on how to recognize postnatal depletion and to build a stronger referral list that includes functional medicine providers.

✨ Favorite quote:
“Repletion is all about improving the internal environment of your body so you can restore what went missing when you became depleted…The placenta seems to show preferential treatment to the developing fetus… often leaving [the mother] lacking enough for herself.” (p.55)

Such an empowering reminder that nourishing you is just as important as nourishing baby. 💛

especially loved how she shares her personal story while adapting zuo yuezi for today’s moms. I’m even inspired to swap my usual recipes for her postpartum egg-drop soup with liver & greens or hearty sausage stew for postpartum clients! 🥣

📖💛 As the mom of a severely colicky baby, this book was a tough read. The 5 S’s never worked for us. I believe colic can signal deeper issues and I also believe temperament plays a role.

💡 Favorite quote: “Navy SEALS are trained to endure severe sleep deprivation and hours of infant crying… In other words, the military prepares warriors to handle torture by exposing them to a typical day in the life of a new mom or dad.” (p. 6)

Our family doctor shared the information of crying used as torture with us and the validation meant everything during our struggle. This is something every parent of a colicky baby needs to know 💕
